As part of Microsoft’s commitment to our Secure Future Initiative (SFI), we are announcing our newest in-house security chip, Azure Integrated HSM, a dedicated Hardware Security Module (HSM) that strengthens key protection by enabling the use of encryption and signing keys while they remain within the bounds of a HSM, without incurring the typical network access latencies for HSM access.

We are excited to announce Azure Boost DPU, Microsoft’s first in-house DPU, designed to run Azure’s data-centric workloads with high efficiency and low power, absorbing multiple components of a traditional server into a single piece of silicon. Azure Boost DPU integrates high speed Ethernet and PCIe interfaces along with network and storage engines, data accelerators, and security features, into a fully programmable system on chip.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the first cloud private preview of the Azure ND GB200 V6 VM series, based on the NVIDIA accelerating computing platform. This latest VM, powered by the NVIDIA GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip, features NVIDIA Grace CPUs and NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs with exceptional AI supercomputing capabilities for training state-of-the-art frontier models as well as accelerating generative inferencing.

Today during Microsoft Ignite, Satya Nadella unveiled our latest CPU-based virtual machine for HPC customers and their applications, Azure HBv5. This new virtual machine (VM) is optimized for the most memory bandwidth-intensive HPC applications, such as computational fluid dynamics, automotive and aerospace simulation, weather modeling, energy research, molecular dynamics, computer aided engineering, and more.

Today at Microsoft Ignite the company unveiled two custom-designed chips and integrated systems that resulted from that journey: the Microsoft Azure Maia AI Accelerator, optimized for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks and generative AI, and the Microsoft Azure Cobalt CPU, an Arm-based processor tailored to run general purpose compute workloads on the Microsoft Cloud. The company’s new Maia 100 AI Accelerator will power some of the largest internal AI workloads running on Microsoft Azure.
